The Facebook Group That Slammed A Home Builder in WNY…and what happened after…
I was in a local Facebook group recently- about 20,000 members strong- when someone asked about a certain home builder in Western New York.
What followed was a tidal wave. Hundreds of comments. Story after story. And let’s just say…the reviews weren’t pretty.
Here’s the thing: this wasn’t just random chatter. These were Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z- the current and next wave of homebuyers. And they weren’t just swapping opinions- they were ACTIVELY RECOMMENDING OTHER BUILDERS.
Now pause for a second…
That’s hundreds of people, in real-time, influencing buying decisions. Facebook groups like this are the new town square. It’s where people go for recommendations, for referrals, and yes…for warnings. And I see it every single day, multiple times a day, And this is not the first time the topic of home builders has come up.
So here’s the gut punch:
If you’re the builder being slammed and you have no social media presence, you’ve got nothing to balance the scales. People will Google you, look you up on Facebook or Instagram, and if you’re silent? They move on. They figure you do not care and are stuck in your old ways.
If you’re the builder being recommended but your socials are crickets, you just missed the easiest conversion of your life. Because instead of showcasing your work, your brand, your voice, and your glowing testimonials, you left the stage empty.
That is a HUGE missed opportunity.
Because in that moment, in that group, you had a ready-made audience of thousands of potential homebuyers. Yes, even when the market right now STINKS. And whether you were being torn down or lifted up, your social media could have been the deciding factor.
Wouldn’t you want your social proof to reflect the real you- your craftsmanship, your happy homeowners, your unique style? Wouldn’t you want the digital conversation to be backed up by undeniable proof of your reputation?
Instead, when you’re absent online, you’re basically telling people:
➡️ “Believe the negative comments.”
➡️ “Don’t bother looking deeper.”
➡️ “My competitor cares more about their reputation than I do.”
And trust me- your competitors are listening too. The ones who are showing up on social media? They’re getting the clicks, the calls, and the contracts. And they’ll come up on top when the landscape flips.
Bottom line: Social media isn’t just marketing for home builders- it’s reputation armor. Without it, you’re putting the nails in your coffin.
